Why don't seal breath before a dive?

Before a long dive, a seal don't take a deep breath but instead it actually blows air out. Nevertheless it can reach dive about 500 meters deep and stay under for over an hour. So, how do marine mammals survive underwater ?
Enjoy this nice two- minute animation by BBC; it is about an atlantic grey seal, but in cetaceans things work pretty much the same.

Come fanno quindi i mammiferi marini a sopravvivere in apnea?
